Following Canada Soccer’s 2024 Annual Meeting of the Members (AMM) in Montreal, Quebec today, Ontario Soccer is proud to congratulate Peter Augruso on being the successful candidate voted to represent Canada Soccer’s Board of Directors as their new President.

It was a competitive two candidate race for the vacancy between Mr. Augruso and current Board President Ms. Charmaine Crooks who has held the position since last year’s AMM. Ultimately, Mr. Augruso won the election by his compelling ‘football first’ platform that builds a culture of soccer excellence in Canada.

“I’ll be working hard alongside our Member Organizations to build a strong football first mentality to support the game across the country, to restore pride in our National Teams and all those Canadians across the country that support us,” said Peter Augruso, Ontario Soccer’s Outgoing Board of Directors’ Chair. “I would like to thank Ms. Crooks for her service to our sport over the last year. Ms. Crooks took stewardship of the Canada Soccer Board during a difficult transitionary period, in addition to being the first woman and the first person of colour to lead the organisation, and her contributions cannot go unrecognized."

Mr. Augruso was elected the 36th President and Chair of Ontario Soccer’s Board of Directors in 2018 after sitting on the former Ontario Soccer Board for five years. Outside of soccer, Mr. Augruso’s resume includes 30 years of service in the Health, Safety and Employment standards fields, having recently retired as the Assistant Deputy Minister for the Ministry of Labour for the Government of Ontario. Mr. Augruso will continue to act as Ontario Soccer’s Chair until June 1, 2024. Ontario Soccer Board of Directors Vice-Chair, Brenda Brown will assume the role of Interim-Chair until Ontario Soccer’s AMM in September 2024 where Ontario Soccer Voting Members will appoint a new Board Chair for a three-year term.
